Last week we found out that the inimitable Grace Jones will headline New York Pride in June. And, this week two more exciting upcoming headliners were announced: RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Shangela has been tapped to perform at the White Party Palm Springs Circus T-Dance, and Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Melissa Etheridge will take the stage at San Diego Pride.
Shangela, the first of, presumably, many stars to be announced in the T-Dance lineup, made history this year by being the only drag queen to attend the Academy Awards (to date.) Last year, she had a breakout cameo in the Oscar-winning film A Star is Born alongside Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga. Shangela’s voice can also be heard on the Ariana Grande track “NASA” from the studio album Thank U, Next. The T-Dance, a highlight of White Party weekend, will take place Sunday, April 28 from 3pm-10pm.
San Diego Pride, celebrating its 45th year, will welcome rocker Melissa Etheridge to its stage on Sunday, July 14 as part of this year’s “Stonewall 50: A Legacy of Liberation” commemoration. The legendary musician who came out in 1993 and has 2 Grammys on her shelf will join more than 90 musical acts slated to appear across four stages during the two-day festival. Tickets for the festival range from $20 to $200 for the VIP option. A limited number of tickets for a meet-and-greet with Etheridge have also been announced but seem currently unavailable.
