Shark Week For Real: Shark On The Subway, Cat Shark, SyFy's "Ghost Shark," More

Proving a shark attack can happen any time, any place, a dead shark was spotted on the N train in Manhattan late last night:

"I board a car that's not terribly full and as soon as I enter, a stench hits my nose. It's not the typical urine/trash smell, it's...fishy? I look down to the end of the car to see a dead shark on the floor. I think I stood there for a good minute just staring, thinking 'Is this for real?! Oh come ON, NYC!'... The train filled as we made our way to Astoria, every new passenger was getting excited about it. Once we got to Queensboro Plaza, an MTA employee made all of us move to another car."

If this turns out to be a viral promotion by the Discovery Channel, we'll be really ticked off. [Gothamist]

Just when you thought it was safe to vacuum the kitchen: The kitty who wore a shark costume and rode around on a Roomba chasing a duckling, is back with a vengeance. This time, Max-Arthur just chills in his costume as the electronic vacuum wonder cleans the kitchen floor. [texasgirly1979]

Tara Reid proved why the producers of Sharknado didn't invite her back for the sequel: Appearing on The Discovery Channel's Shark After Dark, Reid asked "How do a whale and a shark have sex?" when discussing the topic of whale sharks. [Daily Mail]

An Australian outfitter thinks it's developed a wetsuit that will protect divers from shark attacks. SAMS (Shark Attack Mitigation Systems) has devised a camouflage suit that will allegedly confuse the waterborne predators, who rely on sight when they move in to  strike. The theory is sharks are colorblind (hey, we never asked) so they wouldn't know what was up. Another model is reminiscent of a sea snake, a critter decidedly not on most shark's favorite food list. But George Burgess of the Florida Program for Shark Research, told NatGeo the suit would actually attract sharks:  “That striped suit that is supposed to look like a lionfish is about as nice a thing as you can do to attract a shark, because of the contrast between dark and light.”  How about you guys test it out and get back to us, kay? [Wired]

Behold, the trailer for Ghost Shark. Following Sharknado's formula of using former TV stars, the Syfy original movie stars Seventh Heaven Mackenzie Rosman and Night Court's Richard Moll. Catch it August 22.
