Shawn Mendes Comes Out As Gay In Fake Tweet

Fans were not happy that someone was making a joke about the singer's sexuality.

Shawn Mendes can’t seem to escape rumors about his sexuality, but fans thought he put the gossip to rest this week by coming out of the closet in a tweet that turned out to just be fake news.

A post that looked like it came from the singer’s Twitter account read, “Guys, my sexuality shouldn’t be anyone’s business. Yes, I’m gay and I’m proud.”

Soon, the hashtag #ShawnComingOut started trending, but eagle-eyed fans quickly realized the Twitter account was an imposter, and they were not happy.

Mendes already addressed the rumors last year in a Snapchat video, scolding people for treating the situation as though it would be an insult to be gay.

“Now I’m not frustrated because people were saying that I was gay at all. I have no problem with that because it wouldn’t make a difference to me,” he said in the video. “I’m frustrated because in this day and age people have the audacity to write online that I’m gay as if it were a bad thing.”
