She & Him, the folk duo comprised of Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward, is back with two versions of their new single, "He Gives His Love to Me"/"She Gives Her Love to Me."

"We believe love is universal, and that love songs should be too," She & Him writes on social media.

"He Gives His Love to Me"/"She Gives Her Love to Me," the duo's first new song in five years, also marks the first original contribution to MGM Resorts International's expanding Universal Love project, a collection of romantic classics reimagined as wedding songs for the LGBT community.

"What drew us to this project is that it opens up new ways of thinking about songwriting," Deschanel and Ward tell Rolling Stone. "It would be amazing if our songs help to inspire other artists to engage with lyrics in a more open, and inclusive way."

The inaugural six-track Universal Love EP featured gender-flipped covers of iconic love songs by Bob Dylan, Kesha, St. Vincent, Valerie June, Death Cab for Cutie's Ben Gibbard, and Bloc Party frontman Kele Okereke.

“If you look at the history of pop music, love songs have predominantly come from one heterosexual perspective,” says co-producer Tom Murphy. “If we view music as something that brings people together, shouldn’t these popular songs be open to everyone?”
