Tom Ford: I'd Never Make Jake Gyllenhaal Shave His Chest

“I’ll get Jake to show you his bush sometime.”

Tom Ford is out promoting Nocturnal Animals, his sexy new revenge thriller starring Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

“We are physical creatures,” Ford told New York magazine's Kyle Buchanan in a recent interview. “A steak, if you eat meat, tastes great. A fur coat, or cashmere, feels good. Things that are beautiful, we enjoy.”

And while plenty of hairless hunks have appeared in Ford's fashion pictorials, he'd never make Gyllenhaal trim his fur coat.

“It just never occurred to me that he should shave his chest!” the designer-cum-director declared, bucking the trend of Jake-scaping we've seen in Southpaw, Nightcrawler and Demolition.

“I happen to like body hair. I think people should leave it alone — I’m not a fan of all this manscaping that goes on. I don’t really get it.”

Ford, who came to the interview in a crisp white shirt unbuttoned to the navel, told Buchanan, “If you like the chest, you should see what’s down here,” and gestured southward. “There is no manscaping.”

Was Ford hitting on Buchanan or just trying to get good press?

With that image of his untrammelled leading man in mind, the interview was done, though Ford wasn’t. After we finished our discussion, the provocative designer-director walked me to the door and winked.

“Nice talking to you,” he said, adding, “I’ll get Jake to show you his bush sometime.”

In Hollywood, they're kind of one and the same.

Nocturnal Animals is in theaters on November 18.
