RuPaul's influence seems to be spreading to premium cable with the news that Showtime will be developing a show focused on teenage drag shows. Set in New York City, the show is being produced by Lee Daniels (Precious) and W. Merritt Johnson (Temple Gradin), with Daniels set to direct.

The show will focus on the Ball subculture, previously seen in the 1990 documentary Paris is Burning.

No time period for the show has been set though, given the rest of Showtime's original programming, it is likely the show will take place in the present day. No actors are attached to the production at this time but it appears the characters will largely be working class and minorities.

All we have to say is, Ru better be getting a strong supporting role.
