"Sister Wives" Cast Member Comes Out As Gay

The reveal came at the end of Sunday night's episode.

On last night's episode of TLC's hit show Sister Wives, one of the cast members shocked her entire family by coming out as gay.

Mariah Brown, the only child of Kody Brown and his first wife Meri, gathered her father and his four wives in the family's library saying she had some big news to share with them.

Her dad jokingly asked if she was getting engaged, to which she said, "No." He then asked if the announcement had anything to do with her med school plans, which also elicited a negative response.

Finally, she broke the tension by saying, "I'm gay."

While Kody and his wives were definitely shocked by the news, a preview for next week's episode seems to indicate that they'll be pretty progressive about their daughter's sexuality, with Kody saying he's happy "Mariah knows herself."

Mariah (above with her brother) has been distancing herself from her conservative upbringing for quite some time, at least according to her online presence.

Her Twitter, with the bio "ask me about my radical feminist agenda," is chock full of liberal political leanings and pro-LGBT sentiments.

After the episode aired, she tweeted out a sweet message of thanks to the many fans who had reached out with support and love.

"wow okay y'all making me cry with your support," she wrote. "thank you thank you thank you thank you."

Three years ago, Brown and his wives discussed marriage equality with the Huffington Post, saying they supported same-sex marriage and an individual's right to structure their family however they wanted.

Hopefully they'll maintain this stance now that Mariah has come out.
