Homophobic Reggae Artist Sizzla Forced Out Of San Francisco Show

An LGBT group known as Queer Humboldt protested the concert due to the musician's anti-gay sentiments.

Reggae musician Sizzla will no longer be performing in San Francisco next month due to protests from local LGBT group Queer Humboldt.

The group created a campaign that outlined the musician's long history of anti-gay statements to present to 1015 Folsom, the venue where the concert was scheduled to take place.

“We have worked to educate people on ‘murder music’ and we have had lots of success," said Queer Humboldt’s Todd Larsen. "Therefore, we will continue to educate where we can so that venue owners can understand and will not accommodate entertainers like Sizzla, who seek to bring violence upon gays and lesbians via their music."

Larsen said that the group is trying to provide information to promoters who have booked Sizzla, as many do not know about the musician's homophobic past.

"When we reached out to 1015 Folsom, which has supported the LGBTQ community for decades, to inquire as to why they booked the show, they were surprised," Larsen said. "An employee told us he wasn’t aware of Sizzla’s anti-gay sentiments."

The owners of 1015 Folsom released a statement on their Facebook page informing fans that they canceled the show at their venue and moved it to nearby Oakland instead.
