Sleep Outside To Support America's 1.6 Million Homeless Youth

An estimated 40% of homeless youth identify as LGBT.

Almost 2 million young Americans, including an estimated 320,000 to 400,000 LGBT youth, will face homelessness this year. Next month, Covenant House is doing its part to combat the epidemic—and raise awareness of their struggle—with Sleep Out America .

The campaign encourages people across the country to sleep outside on November 16, gathering donations for Covenant House services.

Participants register and camp out for a night in backyards, parking lots, and school fields, to let homeless kids know we’re with them and to help keep the lights on at Covenant House.

Founded more than 40 years ago, Covenant House provides shelter and services in most major U.S. cities for homeless youth, many of whom have faced human trafficking, abuse, or addiction. Last year, the organization helped more than 50,000 young people. The annual Sleep Out campaign provides much of the funds needed to carry out its work.
