“SNL” Criticizes Term “Openly Gay” to Describe New Governor Jared Polis

What's up with those "confirmed bachelors" in office?

Could there be more gay governors in the closet?

Colorado Democratic Rep. Jared Polis made history Tuesday by becoming the first openly gay man to be elected governor in the U.S., beating Republican Walker Stapleton.

“Colorado’s Jared Polis became the first openly gay man elected governor in United States history, which is fantastic," said "Weekend Update" anchor Colin Jost on last night's episode of Saturday Night Live.

"But it’s also weird to me that the media uses the term ‘openly gay,’" Jost joked. "It just implies there are a bunch of other governors out there they’re pretty sure about, but for now they’re still going to call them ‘confirmed bachelors.’”

"Thanks @nbcsnl for letting me [check] one off my bucket list," Polis posted on Instagram.

Polis is a five-time congressman who previously made history as the first "openly gay" man to win a seat as a non-incumbent, when he was elected to Congress in 2008. He and his partner, Marlon Reis, have two children together.
