SoCal Vacation Rental Includes A Pool With A Zipline

Don't get us wrong, we love the luxe resort experience (case in point: Ellen's favorite Caribbean hideaway, the Viceroy Anguilla). But from time to time, we like the home-oriented touch of a vacation rental... the full kitchen, the entertainment system, and, naturally, the flourescent lights in the grotto and the zipline over the pool. That's right: Not all rentals are created equal, and the real estate hounds at Curbed have found a fratty fantasy house near Downtown LA.

First there's the pool, helpfully priced out at $160,000, with a cave waterfall grotto, slide and 14-foot HD theater screen. It's also home to the water basketball court, perfect for those of us who think a full court press would be better with swimmies involved. Needless to say, you're also working with underwater speakers, a barbecue island and more tiki torches than you can shake a... well, tiki torch stick at.

For the, umm, indoor kids, there's a full home movie theater with a 12-foot screen (not to be confused with the pool's 14-footer), as well as an arcade machine that plays all the classics. And if you're not getting enough sun in the actual outdoors, there's a stand-up tanning bed. No one should come back from California and have to explain why they're still some level of March pale, after all.

Unfortunately, renters don't get use of the whole house; there are four tenants with long-term leases, so you're just renting room #5 (though in all fairness, it is the master). So don't plan on necessarily practicing free-throws in the aquatic basketball court; you might have to be up for a game of horse.

All this can be yours for the low, low price of just $400 a week, or $1,500 a month. In fairness, that is a low price; a typical LA hotel will run you about $400 for, oh, a night and a half. However, you also don't have to wait your turn to make drinks in the "well-utilized Margaritaville margarita maker" at most California hotels... you can just pop over to the beach and they'll come to you. On second though, we may prefer it that way.
