Sorry, Boys, Michael Sam Is Engaged To Boyfriend Vito Cammisano
The NFL may have passed on him for now, but Michael Sam is celebrating getting engaged to longtime boyfriend Vito Cammisano. The two first met at the University of Missouri, where Sam was an all-American football star and Cammisano was a member of swim team.
"We didn’t start off as huge fans of each other," Sam confessed.
The two met at a college party, where Sam approached Cammisano, who was three sheets to the wind. “I went up to him to ask if he was okay, and he started cursing at me, screaming, ‘Fuck off—do you know who I am?’ I told him I didn’t care who he was," Sam recalled. "We didn’t speak again for two years.”
Thankfully, things improved from there: The couple began dating, even while Sam was still a closeted athlete. After Sam came out and was drafted by the St. Louis Rams, their celebratory kiss (and cake fight) was captured by ESPN's cameras.
Most recently, the adorable couple rang in the New Year in Rome, where they got engaged. (No word on who proposed).
Though neither guy has officially confirmed the news, a congratulatory Tweet sent by a mutual friend was quickly favorited by Sam.
