South Dakota Pulls "Don't Jerk And Drive" Campaign Due To The Obvious
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety has scrapped a buzzworthy new "Don't Jerk And Drive" safety campaign after literally everyone who saw it, including a state Representative, believed it was a campaign discouraging masturbating while driving.
Officials claim the campaign, which was admittedly directed at "young male drivers," was designed to caution drivers against "jerking" their steering wheel to overcorrect their sliding car on an icy road. Apparently no one at the Department saw the slogan as a double entendre before posting it on Facebook and Twitter.
The hashtag #DontJerkAndDrive was first called out by Rep. Mike Verchio, who criticized the department for a "terrible error in judgement." Now that the campaign has been pulled, he's calling for department officials to "explain why they would do something like that."
"I decided to pull the ad," Trevor Jones, secretary of the Department of Public Safety, said in response to the campaign becoming a meme on social media. "This is an important safety message and I don't want this innuendo to distract from our goal to save lives on the road."
"The message is that we'd prefer drivers keep their cars out of the ditch and their minds out of the gutter," added Lee Axdahl, director of the office of Highway Safety. Bet he's fun at parties!
