star wars

By way of the official Star Wars website, the cast of the upcoming space-opera Star Wars Episode VII has just been announced.  Despite rumors circulating about the casting of younger celebrities like Zac Efron and Lupita Nyong'o, the team associated with the new film is surprisingly sparse on muscle-twinks and ethereal starlets.

The full gang listed on the website are: John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow.  Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker will be reprising their roles as the memorable heros and villains of the epic saga.

Director J.J. Abrams had this to say about the big reveal:

We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.

No information has been given about who will be playing who in the continuation of the science-fictional struggle for the fate of a far away galaxy.

The as-yet-unsubtitled film will be debuting on December 18, 2015.
