Lucasfilm Head Hints Romance Between Finn And Poe Could Happen In "Star Wars" Sequels

"The Last Jedi" hits theaters December 15.

The head of Lucasfilm has hinted that a romance between Finn and Poe could happen in a future Star Wars movie.

President Kathleen Kennedy has yet to confirm anything, but has said a romance between the stormtrooper and the ace pilot is definitely within the realm of possibility.

Speaking to Ecartelera, Kennedy said the door is open to Finn (John Boyega) and Poe (Oscar Isaac) falling in love in future films, but not necessarily in the next installment.

"We’ve talked about it, but I think you’re not going to see it in The Last Jedi," she said.

"After 40 years of adventures, people have a lot of information and a lot of theories about the path these stories can take, and sometimes those theories that come up are new ideas for us to listen to, read and pay attention to."

Star Wars fans have been urging a Finn-Poe romance since The Force Awakens exploded in theaters in December 2015.

Romance between Star Wars characters is hardly new—there was Leia and Han and of course Padme and Anakin. But the Internet has been gunning like mad to turn this new maybe-romance into the franchise's first ever gay subplot.

It doesn't help that the trailer for the upcoming film shows Finn wearing an outfit that looks exactly like one worn by Poe.

Both Boyega and Isaac have seemed to support the idea in interviews, shipping their characters as enthusiastically as their fans have.

“As far as I’m concerned when JJ [Abrams] sat us down to go through the script, it was a bromance,” said Boyega in an interview with Radio Times. “But now I’m learning what Mark Hamill said before, when he didn’t know that Darth Vader was Luke’s father: ’You never know what they’re going to pull.'”

Isaac made an even bigger leap, confessing to Ellen DeGeneres that he'd always played Poe as if he were interested in Finn.

“I think there’s a very subtle relationship happening,” he told Ellen last year. “You have to watch the film a few times to see the little hints, but there was. At least I was playing romance... I won’t say with which character.”

Though it seems unlikely that we'll be getting a same-sex romance anytime soon, we're okay with watching Poe and Finn continue to play the long game in The Last Jedi, which hits theaters December 15.
