StarKid Actor Joey Richter Wants To Bring "Craig The Genie" To Your TV

What would life be like if your roommate were a genie you released from a bong-shaped lamp?  The minds behind "Craig The Genie" are hoping to answer that question.  The brainchild of Brandon Blanks, the show is based off of a series of cartoons he had drawn years ago chronicling a guy who has a lousy roommate bound by magic to grant his master 100 wishes in spite of having no powers.

Starring NewNowNext fave and Team StarKid member Joey Richter as the genie, the project brings together Richter's childhood friends from Orange County.

"Working together is very natural for us," Jordan Kelley, one of the project's creators, told NewNowNext. " The only thing that changed was everyone went of to school to pursue their degrees and passions.  I was finishing school at UCLA when Joey moved to Los Angeles.  Brandon moved to LA a year later after graduating from UC Davis.  Andrew moved to LA this year and Patrick lives in Orange County.  I guess my point is it's not that we decided to start this project now, simply that with geographical separation removed from the equation, we sort of fell back into old habits.

The group plans to shoot the full pilot for Craig the Genie in July and begin shopping it to places like Netflix and Hulu. As part of their Kickstarter process they've been sharing new content with fans each day, especially Richter's super passionate fanbase.

"It's been so thrilling to get people enthusiastic about Craig," Richter exclaimed. "It's a concept that is rooted in absurd comedic fantasy and would be such a fun ride for people to go on with us. My fan base -- and all other backers who discovered this project -- have truly gone above and beyond with their support and personal promotion of this project. It means a lot to all of us on the team to have so many people show so much excitement about a new work that we've been trying to get off the ground for a while."

Richter will jump straight from Craig to his other summer project, a production of The Last Day of Judas Iscariot that was also funded via Kickstarter, this time with his fellow StarKid pals.  You can get a taste of "Craig The Genie" below:
