According to TVLine, Beatriz will be playing “Penelope’s cousin Pilar, whom Elena (Isabella Gomez) is convinced is gay”. Beatriz’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-star Melissa Fumero will also have a guest role on the third season. This development follows news that Gloria Estefan will be joining the cast as Mirtha, Lydia’s younger sister and arch-nemesis.

One Day at a Time captured a strong fan following after it premiered on Netflix back in 2017. A modernized version of Norman Lear’s 1975 hit show, the sitcom centers on a single mother raising her two children with her own mother. The show has tackled mental health, Latinx identity, blended families, and queerness with eldest daughter Elena’s heartfelt coming out during the first season.

The third season will premiere on the streaming service in 2019.
