Straight BBC Hosts Playing Gay For A Day Are Genuinely Shocked By Homophobia

British radio presenter Iain Lee said he was "surprised and disappointed" after experiencing homophobia firsthand on the streets of Luton this week, a suburb about 30 miles north of London.

Lee and fellow Three Counties Radio host Justin Dealey, both straight, were out walking the streets while holding hands to see what reaction they'd get from the public. They briefly conducted the social experiment for about 10 minutes, but that was unfortunately more than enough time for them to feel the heat.

The experiment was inspired by a gay caller to their show earlier this week, who claimed he had suffered homophobic abuse from a stranger who followed him off the train weeks earlier. "He also let me know that quite often when he's walking down the street, holding his boyfriend's hand, he gets funny looks, he gets abuse, he gets things shouted at him," Lee added.

Baffled by the allegations, Lee and Dealey were determined to prove that the public was more progressive than the caller suggested.

And just as you'd expect, they were wrong. Check out their findings below:
