Studio 54 will be the fourth installment of the American Crime Story series, following Impeachment which is set to premiere next month on FX. The fourth iteration will depict the rise and fall of Studio 54 co-owners Steve Rubell and Ian Schrager, and their famous Manhattan discotheque which was a mecca for New York celebs and VIPs. This isn’t the first time Murphy has brought the lavish Studio 54 parties to life, the club was also a setting in the recent Halston Netflix series.

American Love Story will focus on the relationship between John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy and their tragic deaths, while American Sports Story will cover former NFL player and convicted murderer Aaron Hernandez, whose sexuality and suicide was previously covered in a 2020 Netflix docuseries. American Sports Story will be based on the podcast, Gladiator: Aaron Hernandez And Football Inc.

“More than a decade ago, Ryan Murphy expressed interest in expanding the American Horror Story model to be able to tell different American stories, which have long captivated so many of us. It was a brilliant idea,” said Dana Walden, chairman of entertainment, Walt Disney Television, in a statement.

No word yet on when we can expect the trio of new American stories, but since Murphy’s producing plate is pretty full — and Impeachment was already originally pushed back from last year — we might have to wait awhile before putting on our disco dancing shoes.

I write about drag queens. Dolly Parton once ruffled my hair and said I was "just the cutest thing ever."
