With Apple’s introduction of the brand-new, fancy iPod touch yesterday, more people than ever will have little Steve Jobs fun creations in their pockets. After you download Pandora, Facebook, and *don’t* download Grindr, it can be pretty overwhelming weeding through the rest of that jungle of apps out there to decide what accessories to buy your new device. I’m pretty sure new parents experience a similar sensation when they go to bon bébé for the first time. So here are 5 apps that were born gay, and might be the perfect fit for your new bon ipod.

1. Gay Internet Radio Live – G.I.R.L.

If you’re tired of all the British Pop your Last.fm station keeps insisting you like, give G.I.R.L a try. It has a pretty solid stream of dance and electronic music 24 hours a day, and will definitely remix any occasional Selena Gomez song completely beyond recognition. The app is free, and also features a hot dj on the screen just leaning back, taking it easy, and aurally taking care of you.

The app lets you listen to the stream with two options, but the audio is best using WiFi. Song and artist info is displayed with each track.

2. PeekaBooTranny

Boo! What’s that in that photo you just took? No it’s not your finger, it’s PeekaBoo Tranny! The Hipstamatic of the Hell’s Kitchen set adds a little surprise to each of your photos that’s a bit more transformative than some grainy, yellow filter.

3. GayCities

Sick of too many boring recommendations from your Yelp app? Check out Gay Cities, currently available in 181 cities. It’s a free app that lets you find all the hot spots in whatever city you find yourself in. Gay-friendly clubs, restaurants, beaches, and bars can all be found using your location, and the app also provides contact info, reviews, and directions. It’s like an overly helpful concierge at a really gay hotel.

4. Gay Quotes

Inspirational, funny, and thought-provoking quotes can be yours with this knowledgeable app that displays interesting quotes over images of landmarks and people important to the gay community. Go ahead, spend a little money, and get yourself educated. You deserve it. And maybe one of those tidbits will get you a date.

5. My Gay Agenda

Gay Agenda describes itself as a “fabulous calendar application,” and it’s just that. Part simple calendar, part gay history, and 100% vintage faux leather, this app will organize your life while quietly reminding you of your ongoing plans to turn America into one big circuit party. Also, a portion of the proceeds from the app are donated to Project Angel Food.

Thank gah the WaPo just published a 1000 word article examining the cultural defiance of Hillary Clinton growing out her hair! I had no idea she was even working on it. In the words of Robin Givhan, “Clinton, at age 62, has grown out her hair. And it looks quite nice.” Good thing our Secretary of State is smarter than Sally Draper!!

There are a zillion reasons why New York City is such a staggeringly amazing place. And about a thousand of them gathered at Roseland Ballroom on Saturday, August 21st to tear the house down for the 20th 20th Annual GMHC House of Latex Ball, an amazing event benefitting GMHC.

Participants from (and these are only a few) the Houses of Penda’vis, LaBeija, Balenciaga, Xtravaganza, Mizrahi, Legacy and Infiniti and many, many more were on hand to work the runway, compete majorly, celebrate their own fabulosity and the vibrant spirit of the ballroom community, to honor the work of GMHC; and pay tribute to their friends and family who have gone on before.

Call me crazy. But I think this Mutual Savings Bank opus/ first televised appearance of our lady of the sass, Tina Fey, is probably gonna do for the ’90s what Mad Men did for the ’60s.
