"Supernatural" Pays Tribute To The Show's Gay Fan-Fiction Pairing, "Destiel"
In the musical 200th episode of Supernatural, the show delivered a (meta) love letter addressed to fans who have been shipping the relationship between Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) and his angel friend ,Castiel (Misha Collins).
"Destiel" has long been a favorite subject of erotic speculation, birthing scores of fiction detailing their "supernatural" love.
In the episode, "Fan Fiction," Sam and Dean encounter all-girls high school mounting a musical about their adventures.
When Dean notices the girls playing Dean and Castiel hugging each other, the show's writer/director explains it's all just subtext.
Really overt subtext.
It turns out that the two girls playing Dean and Castiel are a couple off-stage as well.
Sam's a bit jealous that his and Castiel's relationship isn't worthy of its own fan fic.
But you really can't beat this kind of Sondheim-level sentiment
Bravo, “Supernatural.” Andrew “Floyd” Webber would be proud. Here’s to 200 more.
