TJ thought he was treating his boyfriend Matt to a surprise birthday party. But in an adorable twist, the party was actually a coverup for Matt's surprise proposal to TJ.

With the help of the couple's family and friends, TJ planned the birthday party for Matt. It was held at the pair's home and included a silly "roast" video for the birthday boy. During the clip, the couple's closest pals retold several hilarious stories about Matt. But around the middle of the clip, the focus of the video changed.

"At 6:50 I hijack the video and at 8:35 you can see that TJ finally realizes what is going on. 11:00 marks where TJ spots his Grandma/family that we snuck into the party," Matthew wrote to Towleroad.

Matt went on to propose to TJ in a heartwarming moment, sealed with a kiss. Watch the couple's sweet surprise within a "surprise" in the video below.
