Survey: Lesbian Couples Five Times More Likely To Split Than Gay Men

The study found a big disparity between the number of lesbian and gay couples putting an end to their romances.

Lesbian couples are more likely to break off their relationships than couples consisting of two gay men are, according to a new Irish survey published by the Court Service indicate.

Of the 2,071 civil partnerships that took place in Ireland between 2011 and 2015, before same-sex marriage became legal, a reported 6% did not last.

Of that number, however, far more lesbian couples were found to have called it quits.

About 12% of lesbian relationships had ended last year, compared to just 2.4% of the relationships between gay men.

Although no reason for the imbalance was given, the report did state that the statistics are in line with trends reported around the world.

Meanwhile, another reported disclosed that the heterosexual divorce rate in Ireland was at an all time high last year.
