It's a good day to be a sports fan in Chicago, where officials just announced plans for the first  hall of fame dedicated to LGBT athletes.

"All the hall of fames have a special section in there for women or for African-Americans, no one has a section for gays and lesbians," says National Gay & Lesbian Sports Hall of Fame director Bill Gubrud, who also says the venue will pay tribute to "other athletes who helped those gay athletes along and provided a safe haven."

Nominees are being accepted this summer–you can suggest someone here–and an induction ceremony is planned for August 2, right before Out at Wrigley, the largest Gay Day held at a major-league sporting event. Gubrud's hoping to find a permanent home for the hall, but for now it'll be housed in the Center on Halsted.

Washington Wizard Jason Collins (above) is a sure bet for a nomination, as are other out sports pioneer like Martina Navratilova, Greg Louganis and Billie Jean King. But there will also be a place for players who weren't out when they were on the field–like ex-NFL cornerback Wade Davis and late outfielder Glenn Burke, credited with introducing the high-five into baseball.

Who would you induct into an LGBT sports hall of fame?
