Check Out the Cover for the New “Tales of the City” Graphic Novel

"Chroniques de San Francisco" hits store shelves on November 5.

Anna Madrigal is about to get animated.

Author Armistead Maupin has revealed the cover for the upcoming Tales of the City graphic novel, but you better learn French if you're hoping to read the cartoon escapades of 28 Barbary Lane. The graphic novel, Chroniques de San Francisco, will be released in France on November 5 via STEINKIS. The collected comic was adapted by Isabelle Bauthian with art by Sandrine Revel.

On Facebook, Maupin said the graphic novel is "very faithful" to his first Tales of the City book—and the publisher bought the rights to all nine Tales books, so if this one sells well, then more could be adapted in the future.

The first Tales novel was originally made into a miniseries that aired on PBS in 1993 and has been hailed as one of the greatest TV miniseries of all time. Two sequel series, More Tales of the City and Further Tales of the City, aired on Showtime in 1998 and 2001, respectively.

Laura Linney, Olympia Dukakis, and Barbara Garrick are the only cast members who appeared in all three of the original series and returned for Armistead Maupin’s Tales of the City, Netflix's 2019 revival.

In 2011, Tales was also turned into a musical, which ran for two months at the American Conservatory Theater in San Francisco. The show had a book by Jeff Whitty and a score by Jake Shears and John “JJ” Garden. There was also a one-night concert performance of the musical on Broadway in 2017 with Justin Vivian Bond as Anna Madrigal.

And now a new Tales of the City graphic novel is magnifique!
