“Tales Of The City” Producer Alan Poul Directing Film Version Of “Dancer From The Dance”

The novel is considered a cornerstone of gay literature.

Andrew Holleran’s cult novel Dancer From the Dance, often considered a foundation of 1970’s gay literature, is being turned into a movie.

Deadline reported on the deal, and described the novel for those who are unfamiliar:

“The book chronicles the search for love and pleasure in the mid-seventies dance-club subculture of New York, centering on the unlikely friendship between the charismatic and mysterious Anthony Malone and the wildly flamboyant Andrew Sutherland.”

Alan Poul, who has directed Six Feet Under and The Newsroom in the past, is signed on to direct the film.

Production on the movie is set to start next summer.
