"Tammy" Star Melissa McCarthy: I Want Sandra Oh And Kathy Bates To Be A Lesbian Couple

Melissa McCarthy plays the titular sad sack in the new summer comedy Tammy, directed by her real-life husband Ben Falcone. And while Tammy's relationship with her alcoholic grandmother (Susan Sarandon) puts the "d" in dysfunctional, the film does offer a portrayal of a stable relationship—a lesbian couple played by American Horror Story's Kathy Bates and Grey's Anatomy Sandra Oh.

Pairing these two is a slice of genius—and they deliver performances that are hilarious, unselfish and unique. As McCarthy tells us below, she kind of wishes Bates and Oh were a couple in real life.

"It's like you go, "I wish you guys were a couple.' and you start to get all teary-eyed," she teases of her co-stars. "'I know you're not but could you be because it really makes me happy?'" The Bridesmaids star says the pairing worked so well because both stars "had an ease to them."
