Tangerine’s Mya Taylor Wins Independent Spirit Award: “There’s Very Beautiful Transgender Talent”

You go girl!

Tangerine star Mya Taylor made history Saturday evening when she became the first transgender actress to ever win a major film award when she took home the Best Supporting Actress prize at the Independent Spirit Awards.

The actress, who played working girl Alexandra in the film, gave an endearing acceptance speech, in which she not only thanked the Tangerine team, her partner and her mother, but also came out in support of the trans community.

“There is transgender talent,” she said at the end of her speech. “There’s very beautiful transgender talent, so you better get out there and put it in your next movie.”
