The Chicago rapper made the announcement in a series of tweets ahead of his 21st birthday.

“My birthday is tomorrow and moving into next year I’d like to be more open about myself to help others that struggle with the same issues,” he wrote.

“Growing up I’ve always felt indifferent about my sexuality and being attracted to one sex and today I would like to openly come out to my fans. I do recognize myself as a bisexual male and I do and have always openly supported the gay community and will keep doing so in 2017.”

Fans reacted enthusiastically to the news, with many tweeting out messages of thanks to the young performer for bringing visibility to the bisexual community.

Bi erasure, which GLAAD defines as “a pervasive problem in which the existence or legitimacy of bisexuality…is questioned or denied outright,” continues to be a major issue for the community, both in how bisexual folks are portrayed in pop culture and how their identity is discussed in the media.

Bennett joins a growing list of celebrities bringing visibility to bisexuality, which will undoubtedly inspire others to openly and honestly discuss their own sexuality.
