Taylor Swift Gets Political: “I Believe in the Fight for LGBTQ Rights”

The pop star comes out in support of Tennessee Dem midterm candidates.

Taylor Swift's reputation took a major hit when she didn't use her pop star platform to stump for a presidential candidate in 2016. But ahead of the midterm elections, the "Blank Space" singer took to Instagram to make it clear who she'll be casting her ballot for in her home state of Tennessee.

"In the past, I’ve been reluctant to publicly voice my political opinions," Swift writes. "But due to several events in my life and in the world in the past two years, I feel very differently about that now."

For the first time, the 28-year-old entertainer explicitly states her views on systemic racism, sexism, and homophobia. She even calls out candidates whose values aren't in line with hers.

"As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn," she says. "Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me. She voted against equal pay for women. She voted against the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, which attempts to protect women from domestic violence, stalking, and date rape. She believes businesses have a right to refuse service to gay couples. She also believes they should not have the right to marry. These are not MY Tennessee values."

Swift concluded her post with a reminder that voter registration ends Oct. 9. So, don't forget or you and T.Swizzle will have bad blood.
