Give Neil Patrick Harris His Golden Globe or the Clarinet Player Gets It

Nphgun1

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Okay okay, he's not actually going to shoot anyone. But as a part of his presenting gig at last night's Spike Video Game Awards the recently-nominated out actor tapped his inner Jack Bauer while handing out the award for Best Indie Game.

Not sure what the joke was around the gun (but I'm sure there was one); to be honest I was more distracted by the other metal on NPH's hand ... while boyfriend David Burtka wasn't on the red carpet with NPH, he was there in spirit.

The testosterone-targeted event was hosted by Jack Black and featured appearances by Kiefer Sutherland, Eliza Dushku, Jerry Stiller, Megan Fox, Weezer, 50 Cent and more. Oh, and gay metal god Rob Halford of Judas Priest was also on the red carpet; check him (and more NPH pics) doing what he does best, after the jump!

2008 ThanksGIFTing Needs for The Video Game Lovers / The "Gay-mers"

Videogamesthanksgifting

Holiday shopping still a work in progress? ...or maybe one not begun? Not to worry - just don't forget the gay-mers on your list. You know gays are big on the VGs (seriously! like how we all have a thing for Buffy). Ah, but buying a video game for a discerning player can be tricky, can't it? I know I have felt the killer combo of awkwardness and disappointment upon opening a telltale-shaped gift only to discover a copy of Jack Nicklaus Major Championship Golf. The right video game can make you the hero of any gift-giving fest, but don't be out of touch, civilians!

I've got some totally sick recs for all three systems, if I do say so myself: buzz-y and state-of-the-art, but with some real quality behind them. Check 'em all out after the jump...

How Gay Would a Straight Girl Go to Join a Sorority?

-- Trish Bendix from AfterEllen.com

The title of the web series Sorority Forever is enough to scare me. Forever? That's such a long time. It's a little too cult-ish for my liking. Let's just learn the secret handshake, wear matching T-shirts and graduate college, OK?

So I wouldn't be watching this CW web series without a reason, and this is it: the new episode (clocking in at just three minutes, 11 seconds) is called "Girl on Girl." Intriguing, yes?Turns out I had good reason to be scared. Watch first, then we'll discuss:

Don't Call It a "Comeback"

-- deborina from AfterEllen.com

This October, Lexus launches its branded, broadband entertainment channel, L Studio. Its aim is to create a destination site offering original, innovative content with familiar faces. A face both original and familiar is Lisa Kudrow, who wrote and produced the new series Web Therapy.

Web Therapy is a 15-part comedy series about Fiona Wallice, a psychotherapist who offers three-minute therapy sessions over the Web. Her character is another flavor of Kudrow Kooky, and the “therapy” that Wallice provides is humorously cringe-worthy. If you enjoy watching Ursula on Mad About You or Phoebe on Friends, you’ll find Web Therapy amusing enough.

Gwyneth Paltrow Wants You to Live Her Lifestyle

-- Val from AfterEllen.com

Gwyneth Paltrow has decided to break into the world of online media ventures with the launch of GOOP, an inspirational “lifestyle” website for women. Well one thing’s for sure: If it’s anything like some of her acting ventures from recent memory (Shallow Hal, anyone?), it will be less-than-inspiring.

However, I’m a woman, and I’m open to the prospect of being inspired, so I figured I should at least give it a chance. Based on the site’s introductory post (the only content available so far), here’s the scoop on GOOP. Paltrow’s life is “good,” and on top of that, she is a good person. She is healthy and hard-working, and she loves being a mom. But the really exciting thing about all this is that she wants to help us make our lives good, too!

Rosario Dawson Heads up The Gemini Division

-- Kim Ruehl from AfterEllen.com

Back in May, we got you pumped for the summer debut of the so-gorgeous-we’d-watch-her-in-anything Rosario Dawson’s role in the web series Gemini Division. I’m not totally sure about this whole web series thing — this one, for example, will run 50 episodes that will be five to seven minutes each. I guess it’s good for people obsessed with sci-fi, but with attention spans too short for an actual television show. Anyway, I am sure that I love TV shows and movies that feature hot women kicking ass. Of course Dawson fits that bill for this series.

Gaming Is for Girls: An Aussie Actress plays in Resident Evil 5

Resident Evil 5 Sheva Alomar

-- Lesbian Gamers from AfterEllen.com

The cool female character in Resident Evil 5 (Sheva Alomar) is modeled by Australian actress Michelle Van Der Water (pictured). Van Der Water was brought up in Oz, but moved to LA a few years ago to become an actor. She's also a former model and, judging by her filmography, this may well be her biggest role to date. (Side note: another Australian actress Anna Torv who will play FBI agent Olivia in the upcoming Fox series Fringe, stars in the PS3 title Heavenly Sword. She also played a rather hot lesbian in the miniseries Mistresses.) That's some great female representation!

For the uninitiated, or those living in a gaming haze, E3 is the E3 Media and Business Summit, formerly known as the Electronic Entertainment Expo. In a word or two, it’s a big deal.

What better week to start your AfterEllen.com video gaming blog, eh? We’ve got the low-down on all the big news from E3 and why you should care. If you’re not a gamer, perhaps it’s time to consider this a viable hobby? You know gaming makes more in a year than the film industry, shocking, but true. Why not give it a try. Twenty Years Later, Gay Themed Star Trek Episode Will Finally Be Screened

-- Lyle Masaki from AfterElton.com

Last March, the team of fans behind Star Trek Phase II began producing "Blood and Fire" a gay-themed script originally written for The Next Generation in 1988 by "The Trouble With Tribbles" writer David Gerrold. The story would have included the franchise's first gay couple and dealt with a deadly disease that worked as an analogy to AIDS, but the episode never was filmed. The gay couple -- who were mostly written as good friends and only referred to as a couple in a couple lines -- stirred debates among TNG staff to the point that it was deemed easier just not to bother with the episode.

Angry Puppy Special: What Was Gay at NY Comic Con? Not Enough

Newyorkcomiccon

-- Marc Leonard from AfterElton.com

From our perspective the most frustrating thing about this year's New York Comic Con wasn't the already-anticipated lack of gay characters in any of the big comic, film, or video game presentations or booths. After all, we weren't expecting much. Sadly, though we were thrilled to have a panel of our own, our biggest frustration was with the gay panel discussion, for which we had higher hopes.

Check out the descriptions of two panel sessions listed in the Con program, and see if you can spot our frustration...

Will As the World Turns Reality Web Series Out-Gay the Actual Show?

Astheworldturnsgay

-- Brian Juergens from AfterElton.com

Not like that's really too hard, these days. But fans of Luke and Noah (and their real-life counterparts, Van Hansis and Jake Silbermann) and the mechanisms of daytime television might want to keep an eye on the web show InTurn, which awards one lucky aspiring soap star with a 13-week contract on As the World Turns. (Get it? In Turn?)

While it doesn't look like any of the four male contestants is openly gay (three of the guys mention girfriends or wives in their bios), the preview video suggests that they'll be asked to do a guy/guy love scene in one of the challenges, as screencapped above. (From what I can tell, that's Peyton on the left and Michael on the right.)

Who Are The People on Gayborhood.tv?

Gayborhoodtv

-- Lyle Masaki from AfterElton.com

Is there not enough gay TV for you? Then maybe you should check out Gayborhood.tv, a site that features a variety of web series focused on different views of gay life, with discussion being heavily encouraged.

My immediate favorite so far is The Box, which started as a collection of gay people speaking their mind at various gay events. However, the tone of the series changes in the third episode, where people talked less about issues and more about the event they were attending. I remember when I was a kid, CBS used to mix little educational segments titled "In the News" amid the commercials -- The Box reminds me of that, giving you a quick view of The Folsom Street Fair, The Gay Rodeo Finals or The White Party in Provincetown.

What's Gay on Hulu?

Hulu

-- Dennis Ayers from AfterElton.com

Hulu.com officially launched last week, and for those who may not be aware, it is the online distribution channel developed as a joint partnership between NBC and FOX. The site contains clips and full episodes from television shows both old and new. Like YouTube, users can freely embed content from Hulu.com anywhere else on the web (the clips that follow are examples). Unlike YouTube, the site won't host any user-generated content, and each media clip has short advertisements at the beginning and/or the end.

In addition to material from FOX and NBC, Hulu also offers content from their many media partners such as Bravo, the Sci Fi Channel, FX, Sony, the USA Network, E!, and others. (Unfortunately, ABC, which among the major networks has the best LGBT track record, does not participate in Hulu.)

Which Disney Princess Are You?

Pocahontas

-- browne from AfterEllen.com

As if Facebook didn’t already offer enough tempting ways to waste time, apparently they’ve now developed their very own line of quizzes, too. Recently I got a message in my news feed telling me that one of my cousins had taken this quiz, and discovered that if she was a Disney princess, she would be Pocahontas:

Since my cousin is an environmentally aware outdoor adventurer who works for a company that cleans up oil spills, this sounds plausible enough to me. Looking at the quiz, I also thought it was completely cool that it was gay-friendly (asking “What kind of guy/girl do you like?”).

Lists I've Liked Lately: Movies, Toys, Geeks and More

Princessleiachristianbale

I keep coming across lists I can't really improve on, so I'm just going to list them. In a list. Of lists. (A few of these are via Pop Candy, which is always a good source for lists and, well, just about everything else.)

1. 10 Star Wars toys that unintentionally look like other celebrities

When I was a kid, I often complained that my Princess Leia action figure just wasn't made right — it kept toppling over. And it annoyed me that her gun was so flimsy and useless, especially compared to Chewbacca's giant over-the-arm weapon. But at least the '70s toy version of Leia didn't look like Christian Bale:
