Teen Arrested After Punching Teacher Who Told Him "I'd Date You"

Ridwaan H. Mohamud, 17, faces felony assault charges and up to three-and-a-half years in prison.

A Wisconsin high school student has been charged with felony assault after punching a male teacher who said he would date him.

Ridwaan H. Mohamud, 17, is accused of breaking the nose of an unnamed staffer at Green Bay's Southwest High School, and is being charged as an adult with battery and disorderly conduct.

He faces three-and-a-half years in prison if found guilty.

The educator had apparently been counseling Mohamud, and insists he said he'd date him as a lighthearted joke, to show the student he wasn't ugly.

Associate principal Jeff Vanlannen was told of the discussion on Friday and assured Mohamud the teacher wasn't coming onto him. Mohamud's mother also tried to talk to her son over the weekend.

But on Monday morning, the teen entered the teacher's first-hour class, called out his name, and then punched him in the face.

Witnesses say the teacher made no effort to defend himself.
