"Teen Wolf" Star Charlie Carver Comes Out As Gay

"Let the record show this—I self-identify as gay. And does that really matter anymore?"

Teen Wolf actor Charlie Carver just came out as gay in a five-part Instagram post.

The 27-year-old—who also appears in The Leftovers and the gay drama I Am Michael with James Franco and Zachary Quinto—posted a photo to Instagram of a sign that reads "Be who you needed when you were younger."

"As a young man, I needed a young man in Hollywood to say that — and without being a dick about it, I owe it to myself, more than anything, to be who I needed when I was younger," he wrote in a thought-out letter that spans five different posts.

Carver shared that he was able to open up to his family earlier on in his life, but felt he needed to remain a blank "canvas" and "benevolently neutral" for the sake of his new acting career.

"If I came out, I feared I would be limiting myself to a type, to a perception with limits that I was not professionally comfortable with," he wrote. "And I created in my imagination an Industry that was just as rigid in this belief as well."

He goes on to say he is "forever grateful" to the people in the industry who helped him realize that this didn't have to be the case.

Meanwhile, his former Teen Wolf co-star Colton Haynes published a sly Tumblr post leading some to think he was coming out, but Carver has made his announcement official.

And for those wondering about his twin brother and Teen Wolf co-star Max, Charlie addresses that as well.

"Let the record show my twin brother is just as cool for being straight," he says, closing out his announcement.
