Tennessee Wants Teachers to Out Students

Remember Tennessee’s “Don’t Say Gay” bill from last year? It prohibited teachers in elementary and middle schools from talking about sexuality outside of reproduction and from acknowledging that homosexuality exists, sort of like how you’re not supposed to say Voldemort. Well the bill is back, this time with a new twist: the bill would now require teachers to out potentially gay students to their parents. Because what’s the role of an educator if not to try and figure out the sexuality of his or her students and then make that public?

The bill also seems to support conversion therapy (or “counseling”), which as we all know works like a dream. Clearly, with this proposed legislation, Tennessee is securing its reputation as a forward thinking state ready to embrace the future of the country. Where’s the bill mandating that we out asshole legislators?
