Gay Rower Proposes To Boyfriend Right After Rowing Across The Atlantic Ocean

David Alviar traveled 3,000 miles to pop the question.

A gay rower proposed to his boyfriend after completing a 3,000 mile journey across the Atlantic.

David Alviar began his epic odyssey on December 14, when he set off from Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands for Antigua along with two other rowers.

As the threesome approached their final destination after seven weeks on the high seas, family and friends gathered on the Caribbean island to welcome them home.

When they finally pulled up to land on February 1, Alviar's partner Stanley Lewis was waiting on the dock alongside the 31-year-old rowing coach's family.

As soon as Alviar spotted Lewis, he dropped to one knee and pulled a ring from his pocket. He held it up to his boyfriend and said: "Will you marry me?"

Lewis, of course, said, "Yes!"

Speaking of the proposal afterward, Alviar explained: “The race ended in the best way possible; I proposed to Stanley Lewis, fellow Texas Crew rower, and 10-year long friend. Texas Crew fueled me in that, and that’s an understatement."

“If it weren’t for my coaches—Jeff, Bob, Falesha, especially—I never would have wanted to do it, been capable of doing it, or enjoyed doing it."

Congratulations to the newly-engaged couple!
