"The 100": What's In Store For Miller, Clarke And The Show's Other LGBT Characters (SPOILERS)

The CW's sci-fi drama is back, and fans of Clexa may have cause for concern.

The CW's sci-fi drama The 100 returned last night, and it appears fans of "Clexa"—the lesbian relationship between Clarke (Eliza Taylor) and Lexa (Alycia Debnam-Carey)—will have some competition.

In the Season 3 premiere, Bellamy briefly mentions "Miller’s boyfriend," and 100 creator Jason Rothenberg tells NewNowNext we're going to find out a lot more about Nathan Miller (Jarod Joseph, below) and his relationship.

Talking to us at the TCA winter press tour, Rothenberg said the identity of Miller's bf won't be revealed right away. And when we do see the two together, the focus won't be on their sexuality.

Apparently the end of the world has a way of making everyone equal.

"Some things are better post-apocalypse," says Rothenberg (above, at the TCA). "It becomes about something else. It’s not about whether they’re gay or straight."

Miller is one of the original 100 "delinquents" sent to down to Earth, where he has become one of Bellamy's most trusted allies.

In Season Two, he forged friendships with Monty Green and Harper, and has navigated an alliance with Jasper and Maya as they try to get out of Mount Weather.

His beef-up role in Season Three is due in large part to Rothenberg's feelings about actor Jarod Joseph.

"I love Jarod,” he said. "I was like, ‘Damn. He’s really good. Let’s explore more with him. Let’s give him more to do.’ So this is something that elevates him in importance in some ways."

Of course, The 100 isn't ignoring its other LGBT characters—even if there were some surprises last night when Clarke hooked up with a new girl, Niylah (Jessica Harmon, above).

What does that mean for Clexa?

Rothenberg says that given that Clarke is on the run, it would make sense for her to seek a physical release.

"That was just escapist sex," he said of the Clarke/Niylah tryst. "She’s just trying to not think about the things that she’s running away from, and one of the ways people do that is [sex]."

Can't deny that.

The hookup also clarifies Clarke's sexuality a bit.

"I think that there was a question that lingered about whether she was in fact bi, or whether she was just doing the thing with Lexa because she needed to politically," says Rothenberg.

But don't worry, Clexa fans: Lexa will be back soon and things are sure to heat up once again.

The 100 airs Thursdays at 9pm on the CW.
