'The Bachelorette' Recap: Are the Spoilers Wrong? Brooks Ends Things with Des

There are only a few things you need to know from last night's episode, which is the first part of the two part Bachelorette finale, and most of them are covered in the title of this post.

The first half of the show is dedicated to Des going on her overnights with Chris and Drew. They are both "madly in love" with Des— something Brooks makes sure to tell Des he's not later in the episode, but I digress — and Des invites them both back to the fantasy suite. Chris reads ANOTHER poem to Des, which Straight Guy mimes doing something lewd during, and Drew expresses his love for Des vocally, which Straight Guys says sounds like a "Laguna Hills speech."

OKAY, LET'S GET TO THE GOOD STUFF. The producers keep splicing in scenes of Brooks in mental agony throughout the first half of the episode. First, he goes to his mom and sister in Idaho for advice. Then, he spends a lot of time walking over bridges in silent contemplation. Finally, Brooks arrives in Antigua, talks to Chris Harrison — who does a great Disapproving Dad face — and breaks the news to Des shortly thereafter. Basically, Brooks is not "100% sure" that Des is the one, and he doesn't feel that the moments away from her are hard enough. It's the most painful scene in Bachelor/Bachelorette history I think, because America's already been privy to Des' thoughts for the past few weeks, and the girl's already madly in love with Brooks.

If you want to feel better about your life, watch the five minutes of gut wrenching breaking up below.

For the record, Reality Steve is staying silent(ish) on Twitter, but he could STILL be right in that Des picks Brooks on next week's finale episode. There'll be a live studio audience, so something dramatic must go down. Remember when Jason Mesnick picked Melissa over Molly a few seasons ago, but then changed his decision after the proposal? I think something similar will happen: Brooks will come back in the finale and tell Des he wants to be with her, and then the two will come on stage in front of a live audience and tell everyone they've been happily together ever since the dramatic final rose ceremony.

But even if Brooks does come back, should Des forgive him for the pain he put her through? Straight Guy says, "There's no way [Des] can take him back after this." Do you agree?
