Hallmark Channel Sleighs the Holiday Season With "The Christmas House 2"

Stuff your stocking with a sequel to the network's first original holiday movie featuring a same-sex couple.

Halloween is still more than a month away, but Hallmark Channel is already loading up the sleigh with its annual slate of holiday movies.

The Christmas-obsessed cable net has unwrapped a first look at the 41 original holiday movies airing this year on Hallmark Channel and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries. One title we are particularly excited to stuff in our stocking with is a sequel to The Christmas House, Hallmark’s first original holiday movie featuring a same-sex couple.

The new film, tentatively titled The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls, reunites the original's cast: Robert Buckley, Jonathan Bennett, Ana Ayora, Treat Williams, Sharon Lawrence, and Brad Harder, who play the Mitchell family. While Hallmark did not offer any images or footage from the festive sequel, it did share the synopsis. It sounds like the Mitchell brothers (Buckley and Bennett) are in a heated competition "to see who can create the best Christmas house."

Bennett also shared the news on his Instagram with a pic of him reuniting with his Christmas House castmates. "The same family, same love, but twice the hilarity. Buckle up, this sleigh is taking off," Bennett captioned the jolly photo.

As NewNowNext previously reported, The Christmas House premiered last November on the Hallmark Channel. In case you were in an egg nog-induced fog and forgot, the official synopsis is as follows:

Working through some difficult decisions, Mitchell family matriarch Phylis (Lawrence) and patriarch Bill (Williams), have summoned their two grown sons—TV star Mike Wade (Buckley) and Brandon Wade (Bennett)—home for the holidays. It is their hope that bringing the family together to recreate the Christmas house will help them find resolution and make a memorable holiday for the entire family and community. As Brandon and his husband Jake (Harder) make the trip home, they are anxiously awaiting a call about the adoption of their first child. Meanwhile, Mike reconnects with Andi (Ayora), his high school sweetheart.

“Our holiday table is bigger and more welcoming than ever. This year’s movies reflect our most diverse representation of talent, narratives, and families, including The Christmas House, featuring a storyline about a gay couple looking to adopt their first child, and starring Jonathan Bennett in an ensemble cast,” said Michelle Vicary, Hallmark’s EVP of programming, last year.

The Christmas House 2 isn't the only LGBTQ holiday movie we will have waiting under the tree. Netflix will also release Single All the Way starring Michael Urie, Philemon Chambers, and Luke MacFarlane.

According to Netflix's description, Single All the Way follows Peter (Michael Urie), who is “desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status. He convinces his best friend Nick to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. But when Peter’s mother sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James — the plan goes awry.”

No word yet on when The Christmas House 2 premieres, but Hallmark's holiday film slate kicks off October 22.
