"The Comeback" Officially Coming Back, HBO Confirms
Debuting in 2005, The Comeback followed Cherish, once TV's It Girl, as she tries to reignite her career with a reality show and a humiliating "wacky neighbor" part on the fictional sitcom Room and Bored. The series received low ratings and mixed critical response, and was canceled after only 13 weeks, but was still nominated for three Emmys, including Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Kudrow. In the near-decade since its demise, The Comeback has achieved near-mythic status as the ultimate brilliant-but-canceled series.
A statement from HBO reveals that "In the new episodes, Valerie continues her search to attain the spotlight, but this time around, it illuminates a whole new series of problems when she achieves the visibility she wants."
Michael Patrick King (Sex and the City) returns as executive producer, along with Kudrow and Scandal's Dan Bucatinsky, who will reprise his role as Valerie's publicist Billy Stanton. Also returning are Lance Barber (as Room and Bored producer Paulie G), Laura Silverman (as reality-show producer Jane), Damian Young (as hubby Mark) and Robert Michael Morris (as Val's gay hairdresser and confidante, Mickey).
But what about Room and Bored co-stars Kellan Lutz, Maulik Pancholy and Malin Ackerman?
