Bill and Melinda Gates are awarding $100,000 startup grant to inventors who are able to design "the next generation condom that significantly preserves or enhances pleasure and promotes regular use." Laugh all you want at the thought of Bill Gates saying the word "condom" out loud, but it's a noble request, the modern-day, geektastic version of "Let's Talk About Sex," if you will.

Germany-based Jörg Sprave of The Slingshot Channel -- which is a thing -- has designed a condom applicator gun -- for real. Although it may, at first sight, look like a scrappy, wooden weapon directly out of "Logan's Run," the thing really does shoot a condom directly onto your member.

Actually, it looks painful, but if that's the cost of fighting the spread of HIV, we'd love to hear Bill Gates recount the experience first-hand.
