A new storyline on ABC Family's critically well-received and already-groundbreaking drama The Fosters has many celebrating. The show, about a lesbian couple's trials and tribulations with their children, has now shown what is being called the youngest on-screen same-sex kiss as part of their newly developing plot about one of the main characters' coming out process.

The emerging storyline has revolved around the budding friendship between Jude Foster (played by Hayden Byerly) and a schoolmate named Connor. While fans of the show had been cheering for the pair to become a couple for a while now (#Jonnor!), their wishes seemed to come true on last night's episode when the two shared a quick kiss.

The cute moment led to the show's creator Peter Paige tweeting the following:

In the moments following the kiss, the response of social media was overwhelmingly positive, which makes sense considering detractors of LGBT plot-lines would have already been scared off by the show's very premise. One would expect backlash to follow in the coming days.

That being said, the kiss marks an interesting moment for both the show and LGBT media at large, which is only now able to explore the themes of young queer romance, especially on television geared towards a "family" audience.
