The Fourth Season Of "Supergirl" Will Introduce A Transgender Character

Nal's introduction will make her the 10th major LGBT character in the Arrowverse.

The fourth season of The CW's Supergirl will see the introduction of the series' first transgender character.

The news comes from a casting call obtained by ComicBook for a character named "Nia Nal." Though the casting call doesn't specify an ethnicity, the character description does call for a 20-something transgender woman who will be positioned to take over the newsroom as "a young Cat Grant type."

CatCo's significance on the show has diminished after Season 1, but the introduction of Nal could be the push needed to recenter the news company back into the Supergirl world.

Nal's representation is also significant beyond this. In fact, her appearance will mark the 10th confirmed LGBT character in the "Arrowverse," following the news of Batwoman making her debut later this year as well.

This isn't Supergirl's first foray into LGBT inclusion: In an earlier season of the series, Supergirl's adoptive sister Alex came out as a lesbian, answering some lingering questions from fans about her character.

Supergirl will return for Season 4 in the fall on The CW.
