“The Golden Girls” Almost Made a Cameo in “Ralph Breaks the Internet”

Thank you for being a friend?

If you saw the trailers for the Wreck-It Ralph sequel, Ralph Breaks the Internet, then you already knew that Disney princesses were going to be making cameos in the new animated feature, but there was almost an appearance by the cast of your favorite sitcom, The Golden Girls.

In a new interview with Yahoo!, Ralph Breaks the Internet co-directors Rich Moore and Phil Johnston reveal how they originally had Dorothy, Blanche, Rose, and Sophia make a cameo in the movie when Ralph (John C. Reilly) and Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman) go searching the internet, and come across the real Disney fan site, OhMy.Disney.

“As we were studying the OhMy.Disney website… The Golden Girls were weirdly prominent throughout,” said Johnston. “They really lean in on that website to The Golden Girls. A lot of quizzes, a lot of lists…”

According to Yahoo, the directors “plotted out cameos for Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and Sophia alongside a bevy of Marvel, Star Wars and Disney characters.”

“We threw it in the movie animatic and people were like, ’What?!'” recalls Johnston.

“It was a little confusing,” adds Moore. “If you were not familiar with the website, it was a bit confusing.”

Who is not familiar with Golden Girls quizzes on the internet?! If you’re sad that we missed out on Dorothy and the ladies being introduced into the Disney animated universe, you are not alone:

“You’re asking my regrets when I’m on my deathbed?” Johnston asked Yahoo. “It’s that — that the Golden Girls are not in this movie.”

Maybe we can hold out hope for some deleted scenes on the Blu-ray release?
