The Horrible History of "Ex-Gay" Cures
No matter what you name it, it's still dangerous quackery
The incomparable Matt Baume is back with his latest look at LGBT history, this time focusing on the last hundred years of "ex-gay" cures, from forced cuddling, horse stroking, and monkey testicles, to castration, icepick lobotomies, and that evergreen go-to electroshock therapy.
Matt mentions all of the usual suspects, including tennis racquet enthusiast Richard Cohen, Joseph (beware the boy who plays piano) Nicolosi, and on-again/off-again ex-gay John Paulk.
Plus the infamous "Journey Into Manhood," with its nude dancing by candlelight to purge queerness.
