Jessica Lange's Version Of "Life On Mars" Was So Epic It's Nominated For An Award
Hot on the heels of the Golden Globes, the Gay and Lesbian Critics Association (GALECA) released its nominations this week for the annual Dorian Awards, which honor "the year’s finest in film and television, from mainstream to gaystream"
Though Oscar heavyweight Birdman walked away with five noms, the most of any film, both The Imitation Game and Pride received three apiece. Other top nominees included Golden Globes winners The Grand Budapest Hotel and Boyhood.
In the TV categories, the trans-focused dramedy Transparent received five nominations while The Normal Heart stood strong with four.
GALECA also honors individuals for special awards—Fault In Our Stars cutie Ansel Elgot and Jane the Virgin star Gina Rodriguez were both nominated in the "We're Wilde About You!" rising-stars category.
Neil Patrick Harris, Tilda Swinton, queer director Xavier Dolan and Transparent creator Jill Soloway are up for the Wilde Artist of the Year award, "honoring a truly groundbreaking force in the field of film, theater, and/or television."
Among other notable nods: Both Maleficent and Gone Girl are up for Campiest Movie, Tatiana Maslany is nominated for Best TV Performance for Orphan Black. (Take that Emmys!) and Jessica Lange's rendition of "Life on Mars" on American Horror Story is up for Best TV Musical Moment. (We're still haunted by that scene.)
One truly deserving winner has already been announced, though: The Timeless Award, "to an actor or performer whose exemplary career is marked by character, wisdom and wit," went to George Takei.
The 2015 Dorian Award winners will be announced January 20. Check out the full list of nominees below.
