The Juvet Hotel on Norway’s National Tourist Routes

This gorgeous, exclusive hotel that starts at $500/night is actually a government project. Scandinavia, you so crazy.

There is a government roads project in Norway that sounds at first like – well, like a government roads project. Eighteen stretches of road across the country have been designated National Tourist Routes, roads that go through the very prettiest parts of the country, with lots of interesting architecture along the way.

But because these people are so effortlessly cool (scientific fact), the project also teamed up with various cool architects and designers to build destinations. One of the resulting creations is the Juvet Hotel, a temple of style hidden way out in the fjords that the Queen of Norway cut the ribbon on.

Each room is a freestanding structure made of metal, glass and dark wood and filled with Moderne furniture – the suite to get is the one with the hot tub overlooking the river, if you can get it. Rooms start at about $500/night. (Check out more amazing photos here.)

Included in the rate are guided, outdoorsy activities like skiing and rafting. And after a swim in the river or a pool, you can just sit around and look beautiful and morose like the girl on the website. No better place to brood than on a fjord.
