Nick Jonas On His "Kingdom" Character's Sexuality & Losing Himself In The Role

We know that Nick Jonas loves his gay fans and as the premiere of the new DirecTV series Kingdom gets closer, he's also revealing a little bit more about the layers to his character.

In the series, Jonas plays Nate Kulina, an up-and-coming Mixed Martial Arts fighter who's being trained by his father, Alvey (Frank Grillo) but also contends with a f**k-up of an older brother (Jonathan Tucker) while trying to stay focused on his training to win his first big fight. The series is created by Byron Balasco, who has worked on shows like Detroit 1-8-7 and Without A Trace.

Jonas certainly raised the curiosity quotient by mentioning there's a sexuality issue with his character in a recent Watch What Happens Live appearance. TheBacklot asked the young actor/singer about that at last night's premiere. Jonas, as well as co-stars Grillo, Tucker, Joanna Going (who plays Nate's mother) and Matt Lauria (who plays a former MMA fighter newly out of prison), offered up a bit more information.

In the interview, Jonas says, "...my character in the show, you know, there's a lot going on and once the carpet's kind of  pulled out from under him he's got to figure out who he is and that's everything from his personality to sexuality, every part of himself that he's never discovered before, he goes on that journey." Asked if what we'll see is groundbreaking, Jonas replied, "I hope so."
