The Next "Vacations of the Brave" Episode Features Transgender Father and Daughter

“Being brave means breaking boundaries, standing up for yourself, living your authentic truth, and never ever being ashamed of who you are."

Earlier this week, Amazon Prime Video launched Vacations of the Brave, a new travel docu-series that follows eight fearless Americans while they explore various destinations in Canada. (If you are wondering, "why Canada?", the program was produced in conjunction with Destination Canada, that country's tourism arm.) In its third episode we meet father and daughter travelers, Eric and Corey Maison. And, if their names sound familiar, it is because the duo has been the focus of intense media attention over the past few years.

Since the age of two, Corey Maison began to identify as female. Her decision to transition as a teenager helped bolstered her parent Eric's confidence, and gave him the courage he needed to transition from female to male soon afterwards. Subsequently, their lives have been splashed across magazine columns, news broadcasts, and web sites. Yet, through all this, Eric and Corey have weathered the unrelenting scrutiny with fearlessness and grace.

“Being brave means breaking boundaries, standing up for yourself, living your authentic truth, and never ever being ashamed of who you are," Eric tells NewNowNext. "It means fighting for equality for all and being the voice and visible for those who cannot be. I am proud to be able to showcase bravery and courage as part of this series, and so thankful and humbled to have been given this large platform to share my story. I hope my story will inspire others to be brave in their lives as well.”

During their episode of Vacations of the Brave, Eric and Corey journey to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick where they get to spend quality time together and bond over some of the things this father and daughter duo enjoy: fishing, eating, and most of all, laughing.

“From kayaking between the Hopewell Rocks, to lobster fishing, to dining on the ocean floor, the entire trip to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick was memorable and will stay with me for my entire lifetime," noted Eric. "If I had to choose one thing that was the most memorable, it was definitely the people. The kindness, acceptance, and love I felt from everyone I met and was able to spend time with was such an incredible honor. I can’t wait to return to Canada with my entire family very soon!”

The Maison’s episode of Vacations of the Brave will be available on Friday, November 17, for streaming by Amazon Prime Video members located in the United States.
