The Shipping News: Masterpieces of Madness

The best art produced for the glory of #slashmadness, plus GISHWHES 2013 and that Glee hottie we ship with EVERYONE.

It’s a Party and I’ll Hug Everyone if I Want To

My dear lovely Destiel shippers, CONGRATULATIONS!

It really is amazing how hard everyone worked this year to get their ships to the top and though I can honestly say that I wasn’t surprised to see a repeat of last year’s final showdown. I am so beyond impressed that Destiel shippers managed this feat while focusing on Misha’s GISHWHES.

My fellow Sterek shippers, you did a great job and I hope you all join me in congratulating the Supernatural fandom on their win.

To all those whose ships didn’t make it to the final rumble, do not lose hope! I am really hoping to see some fresh blood in next year’s Slash Madness!!!

Alright, congratulations and pats on the back over and done with – I’d love to highlight some of the magnificent campaigning that went down for the poll this year. There are such great artists out there making beautiful and/or hilarious art for their ships, I’m bringing some straight to you.

Some Propaganda We Can Get Behind

This year we let you know about the internal debate we had been having over Wincest, remember? Well it was decided it wasn’t up to us here at TBL to stand in the way of great shipping and the shippers rose to the occasion. Just take a look at this art.

This next one is a ship –indeed, a whole fandom – that I will never stop being impressed with. The Inception fandom awaits no sequels and gets little to no new external input, and yet here it is, strong as ever and making it really quite far into this tourney several years after the film it sprang from was released. I would really not be surprised to see the Eames/Arthur shippers take up new wind in their sails after this.

Johnlock as usual, brings the beautifully crafted angst. Celebrating  (do Sherlockians celebrate or just cry a little less?) their brand new teaser trailer didn’t keep them from playing the game deep into the Tourney this time. And look at these sads.  Aren’t they beautiful?

There came a point when the Sterek fandom realized that they didn’t have it in the bag and it was going to be a tough battle ahead. There are countless recaptioned gif sets out there urging Sterek shippers to vote, but personally I don’t think anything captures the last ditch effort desperation like this little piece.

This year’s champions (Queen plays in the background) were militant, determined, and dedicated and, well, it paid off. My favorite vote vote vote fanarts for the winner are these cuties right here.

The Madness of Slash Madness

Now, not everything created was ship specific and I think that is so awesome. Some of the creative stuff out there was just to get people to vote, vote for whomever you want but for goodness sake vote!  Which is a great effort; really, participating is all of the fun. One of the best bits of creativity is a whole fanfic on AO3 actually tagged as SlashMadness, making reference and focusing on the poll as Sterek have a bit of a fanon type romance and Stiles is a dedicated captain of the Merthur ship who has to vote every hour on the hour. Check it out because it’s adorable and hey THERE IS FIC ABOUT THE TOURNEY. HOW COOL IS THAT?

The Ship That Sailed by lheadley

Destiel still held a commanding lead. Merthur was catching up, and his vote was going to narrow the gap just a little further, but Destiel was still ahead. Stiles immediately opened his Tumblr page, to post a rallying cry to the masses (he had legions of followers. Well, hundreds. Well, more than an hundred). Never in the course of shipper conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few. Now was the time for all good shippers to come to the aid of the party. Ask not what your ship can do for you, ask what you can do for your ship.

Music to Vote To

Tell me you didn’t sing as you read that. This adorable little Dory (who would probably be an excellent mascot for our sister Tourney at AfterEllen) reminds you that all there is to do is keep on voting.

But while it was nice to have a little tune to hum once an hour while we actually voted, it was really cool to jam to a whole fanmix dedicated to our not so little event. Check it out, it is actually perfect.

Listen to the sounds of voting madness here…

In other news…

Just a quick note to alert you of some news outside of our voting bunker.

GISHWHES 2013. That’s what’s been happening out there. I don’t even know the details of it myself. I know that it is fun, insane, and contains plenty of acts of kindness. It sounds like something I want to be a part of so I’m going to keep my eyes and ears set for it next year and I hope you do too! Seriously, the Misha Collins fandom is one of the greatest out there, no doubt.

The Glee fandom wakes slowly and through the solidarity found within itself, from the cast and crew, and from fellow fandoms is ready to look forward to Season 5. But not all is solemnity and mourning, there will be time for that.

For now we have this adorable bastard sticking his head out of a gate. Grant Gustin is set to return as Sebastian Smythe this season, to continue his transformation into full fledged good guy perhaps? (Please bring Dave Karofsky back, redemption arcs are my drug and these two are perfect together). Regardless of the Warbler’s intentions, the Smythofsky, Kurtbastian, Seblaine, and Sebklaine ships are all aflutter with their particular brand of extra sexy art and fic.

Alright folks that’s all for now! For our parting I thought I would share with you my particular experience with Slash Madness. One of my close friends thought it’d be funny to capture me in the throes of a situation I’m sure many of us have found ourselves in. Finding damn good fic at ridiculous o’clock at night.

I do not see the day when I chose to leave this life guys, I’m in it to win it. Gather your strength, start campaigning for next year’s Tourney, and don’t let the multi-chaptered fics keep you up!!!
