The Shipping News: The Greatest Love Story in All Asgard

Hey guys, Mike here with the latest bi-weekly edition of The Shipping News. Thorki shippers REJOICE! The new Thor movie opened in the U.S. this past weekend and, while I haven’t gotten a chance to see it yet (dodges rotten tomatoes) I hear that if you didn’t ship them before, this movie is like the good kind of conversion therapy.

Before we jump into the ice cold pool of angst that is Thorki, just a little bit of news from around the fandom world.

Fandom News

Teen Wolf fans, ever feel like your particular OTP never gets enough love? This applies to basically all those who ship a TW couple other than Sterek. Well, I have just the thing for you. It’s Rarepair November! This blog will be featuring new fanworks and fanfiction focusing on pairings that perhaps don’t receive as much attention. I for one didn’t even know I shipped Steter (Stiles/ Peter) until I took a scroll through this blog. Also, Stisaac… consider my mind blown.

The most patient fandom in the world, the Sherlock fandom, got a lovely bit of relief in the form of the first promotional pic for season 3.

The tea is brewed from the angsty-feelings plant and is sweetened with the tears of fangirls

There’s, admittedly not much to it at first glance, no spoilers or great revelations about that thing that happened with the building that we don’t talk about, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t shriek and frighten everyone riding the bus with me when I first saw it. Also, get into Sherlock's face, the longing etched there as he gazes at friend (soulmate). Clearly the glass window is a metaphor for the almost there, but not quite enough of their relationship. He can look, but can’t touch. Tell me if I’m reading too much into this, I just have a lot of feelings okay.

We will FINALLY get to fully immerse ourselves back into the world of Sherlock when the new season premieres on January 19th.

Day of Doctor

Whovians! We have the first trailer for the 50th anniversary special that will be released on November 23rd, and yeah, yeah, yeah, there’s a bunch of Doctors and blah blah blah Daleks who cares because, ROSE!!! (I am still not over it)

Also, to help get you amped up (as if you needed it), the day before the special airs, both David Tennant and Matt Smith will be appearing on one of my favorite talk shows The Graham Norton Show.

So this happened:

And the internet goes WILD! Apparently a theatre in Shanghai got a little confused and thought that this fanmade super slashy poster was the actual poster for the movie. An easy mistake, let’s be real. Of course Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston got a chance to see the now infamous poster during an interview they did in China, you can see their reactions at about 1:10.

Now, I don’t speak a word of Chinese so I have no idea what is going on in the rest of that clip, however it’s worth watching to the end... because Tom Hiddleston is an amazing dancer.

Is it Thunderfrost or Thorki

Whatever you call them, Thorki, Thunderfrost, the greatest super-couple in all of Asgard, Thor and Loki are the pairing of the moment. With the release of the most recent Thor movie, now is a great time to get into the new fanwork that will surely be unleashed in the wake of all this new canon. Thorki is one of those ships that, as my lovely fellow slash expert Adri pointed out, are very obviously there. They have all the makings of a perfect slash ship, there’s a clear and deep bond between them, heapings of angst, and well rounded multi-dimensional characters to boot. Well, Loki at least. I’d hesitate to refer to Thor as being multi-dimensional.

Here’s a helpful infographic...

As someone who personally never really paid the pairing much attention, it took mere minutes of google-fu to sway me. Here, allow me to sway you too,

Seems pretty legit

Still not swayed? The here, have some fanfic.

Revelations by Astolat

Excerpt:

When Thor fell, everything trembled. The shockwave came up through the air and made Tony's course wobble: that was why he looked down. "Thor's down," Steve's voice came over the comm, calm. Tony could see Natasha running towards the impact crater, and Steve was in defensive position in front of it, shield ready. He should've gotten back to the fight then and there: Doom's second wave of magic-enhanced super-soldiers was still coming, and even though Thor had taken out the miniature Death Star, as Tony had dubbed it, there were plenty of smaller flying guns in the air.

Tony didn't know at first what it was that made him pause. Thor was knocked flat, that was all. Nothing that didn't happen once in a while, even to your friendly neighborhood demigod. He was lying pretty still, but okay, he'd taken a hard knock—he'd be fine—

Then he realized that he'd seen, out of the corner of his eye, that Loki had stopped fighting. He'd been tangling with a few tanks, some ground troops Clint was backing; all of a sudden he wasn't moving, looking over at where Thor had hit the ground. A shell landed at his feet, blew: the explosion seemed to just float through his body, as though he'd phased out of space, and when it passed he was still just standing there.

Also check out this, this, and this. Basically go read everything by Astolat, in every fandom. Even if it’s not your fandom, you will want it to be after reading her fic.

So that’s all I’ve got for you this week. I’m just going to hang out with my two new Asgardian besties and giggle about/sob over them. Are you as stoked about the latest Thor installment as we are? Let us know in the comments. Also, remember, we’ve switched to a bi-weekly schedule look for an update on all things slashy in two weeks.
